  • Maya Rogers - Navigating Isolation On-Campus Photoset by Maya Rogers and Clara Posner

Maya Rogers - Navigating Isolation On-Campus Photoset

    Maya Rogers and Clara Posner

    A) I’ve taken a lot of selfies with masks because I’ve been wearing them a lot. B) I’ve been documenting my hair growth, which I find fun. C) Zoom calls are such a big thing now and my favorite one was the Disability Services/OHP Caturday event. D) I’ve been cooking a lot, as I have a lot of time, not much else to do, and because I’m immunocompromised I’m trying to avoid all public places as much as possible. E) I did a CSA Instagram takeover and the photo with text is from that. F) The photo with the cupcake encapsulates both my want to support local businesses (like Cakewalk) as well as my reliance on Google Calendar. Not to mention I’m still so busy! G) The photo with the yellow mask is from a day I had to go to the hospital for my monthly infusion, which has gotten even more stressful and everyone is wearing masks but I still feel scared, though I have to get my treatment. It reminds me of how vulnerable I am, which I try to put out of my mind. (She/Her/Hers/class of 2022/ Psychology/Tulsa, OK/Tulsa, OK and Northfield, MN)

Anna Schumacher - Life in Detroit Lakes, MN During The Pandemic

    Anna Schumacher and Clara Posner

    1. The crowd at the Fargo, ND BLM protests a few friends and I attended. It was hard to be away from the Twin Cities during the last two weeks of the term after the killing of George Floyd and the ensuing wave of police brutality. 2. The Accidentals (my a capella group) met via Zoom weekly to stay connected during quarantine. 3. We had to record ourselves singing for a remote Carleton Choir project which resulted in a lot of technical mishaps, including this silly photo. 4. Family Yahtzee! a night with my sisters in Alaska. Mom and Dad asked too many questions and yelled a lot. 5. Our cat Dookie was my constant support/annoyance during online classes. 6. The first few weeks of quarantine were FULL of yummy food... until we lost energy and stopped cooking fun things. These veggies enchiladas made everyone happy, even my meat-loving dad. 7. When we are on campus, a group of friends and I have 'tea time' and we decided to keep it going over video chat during our term away. 8. On my 21st birthday/last day of classes, my housemate and I took a trip to my favorite childhood lake and paddled around. We chased swarms of minnows and ran away when their guardians started nipping at our toes. (She/Her/Hers/class of 2021/Psychology and Spanish minor/Detroit Lakes, MN /Detroit Lakes, MN)

Katie Taylor - Quarantine in a Cabin

    Katie Taylor and Marcella Lees

"I came home on the 17th of March, spent one night in my childhood home, and I immediately drove to Eastern Washington, where I've been staying at my parents cabin. The cabin is on a sixteen acre plot, so it's safe to say that I did not see a lot of people outside my family for a while. I am undoubtedly incredibly lucky to live in the area. I can run on the trail systems in my neighborhood every day, and I have never had to worry about seeing other people. It feels super weird to live in that house for the spring, but my life would not be that different if I randomly decided to take all of my classes (without quarantine). My parents spend about three days a week at the cabin, and my brother lived with me for the first half of the term, but I spent the last two work weeks living alone. It's beautiful, but it's also very quiet." (She/Her/Hers/class of 2022/Chemistry/Arlington, WA/Mostly Winthrop, WA)
