    A schedule for a weekly library story time from the Homer Public Library, Homer, AK, delivered over the radio in lieu of in-person story time. The program is broadcast on KBBI, Homer’s public radio station, in a weekly one-hour program of stories, music, and calls from kids. The schedule provides a weekly list of stories and songs that will appear on the program.

    Chilkat Protector: First American Art Magazine Mask Competition

    The Chilkat Protector mask was created as part of First American Art Magazine’s Masked Heroes competition which asked Indigenous artists around the country to create a mask inspired by their culture to create a virtual exhibit in celebration of Indigenous resilience and beauty amid the pandemic. Chilkat Protector by Tlingit weaver Lily Hop was made from Merino wool and cedar bark with ermine fur. In her submission, Hope wrote, “We have a responsibility to honor and carry on the teachings, to keep creating, to share our version of spirits with others, so when we pass, we’ve left the world more beautiful, through our weaving and through a joyful spirit.” Chilkat Protector was one of the masks to receive the Judge’s Choice Award.

    Isabella Hurley, age 19, has found both a new hobby and a new means of coping through terrarium creation. When I spoke to her about it, she said "it's like building a little planet. I get so caught up in planning each detail and arranging them, that I am able to forget about all the stress around me. I especially like doing intricate ones because they're time consuming." She said this wasn't something she had imagined doing before the pandemic, but that with her new abundance of free time she's been able to find a hobby that really calls to her.

This might involve merging UAS into one of the other UA schools, either Fairbanks or Anchorage, or it might entail cutting over 50 degree programs to bring down costs.
